About Starfleet Lodge

Real Freemasonry – with a Star Trek Spin

Starfleet Lodge, UD is a California Masonic lodge built for those who believe that brotherhood should be meaningful, meetings should be engaging, and the journey should feel like it’s actually going somewhere. Inspired by the optimism and spirit of Star Trek, and grounded firmly in the traditions of Freemasonry, we bring together fellowship, purpose, and just the right amount of imagination.

We are not a novelty. We are not a cosplay club.
We are a real lodge—working under the authority of the Grand Lodge of California—just with a slightly more… exploratory operating system.

What Is an Affinity Lodge?

In California, an affinity lodge is a lodge whose members share a common interest, background, or passion that shapes the culture of the lodge. That affinity might be professional, cultural, philosophical… or, in our case, a shared appreciation for the ideals found in Star Trek.

The key point:
The affinity enhances the experience, but it does not replace the work.

Starfleet Lodge practices authentic Freemasonry—its ritual, its teachings, and its expectations—while using the Star Trek ethos as a creative framework to deepen engagement, connection, and meaning.

Think of it as:

  • the same timeless teachings
  • delivered with a slightly more inspiring lens
  • and a crew that’s fully committed to the mission

Our Institution

Starfleet Lodge, UD was formally instituted on April 12, 2026 at Pleasanton Lodge #321, in Pleasanton, CA

The ceremony was conducted under the authority of the Grand Lodge of California, presided over by Most Worshipful Garrett S. Chan, Grand Master of Masons in California. Masonic leaders, officers, and members from across the jurisdiction were present to witness the ceremony, establish the lodge, and set it to work.

The institution marked the official beginning of our journey as a lodge under dispensation, tasked with demonstrating that a new kind of Masonic experience—one rooted in tradition but expressed through a fresh and engaging lens—can thrive.

What We Believe

At Starfleet Lodge, we believe:

  • Brotherhood should feel like a crew, not a mailing list
  • Ritual should teach, not just be performed
  • Meetings should be worth attending
  • Tradition should be honored—but not allowed to become stagnant
  • And a little imagination can go a long way

We take the work seriously.
We just believe the experience can be better.

How We Meet

Starfleet Lodge typically meets in San Francisco, at the beautiful Freemasons’ Hall, gathering first for fellowship (often over lunch) before opening the lodge for our stated meeting or mission.

Our meetings are structured, purposeful, and welcoming—designed to engage both experienced Masons and those new to the journey.

Final Thought

Freemasonry teaches us to improve ourselves and contribute to something greater.

Star Trek shows us what that might look like if we actually succeed.

At Starfleet Lodge, we’re working somewhere in between—
building a lodge that feels like it belongs in the future,
while remaining grounded in the timeless principles that brought us here.

Ad Astra, Ad Lucem.
