USS Hornet Visit

Set course for Alameda and join Starfleet Lodge for a special away mission aboard the legendary USS Hornet Museum—a vessel where history, exploration, and a touch of Star Trek lore converge.
Commissioned in 1943, the Hornet served with distinction through World War II and beyond. But its most extraordinary chapter came not in war, but in exploration. The Hornet was the primary recovery ship for the astronauts of Apollo 11 Moon Landing and Apollo 12 mission, standing ready as humanity took its first steps beyond Earth and safely returned home. In many ways, it represents an early chapter in the same story Star Trek continues—our journey into the unknown.
And yes… this is Alameda—home of the famous “nuclear wessels,” as immortalized by Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. While the Hornet itself is not one of those vessels, you’ll be standing in the very harbor that gave us one of the most beloved and humorous moments in Star Trek history.
During our visit, you’ll:
- Explore the flight deck and island, with sweeping views of the Bay
- Step inside command spaces and operational areas
- Experience exhibits dedicated to the Apollo recovery missions
- Reflect on the connection between naval history and humanity’s leap into space
This is more than a tour—it’s a bridge between eras. From the steel decks that supported missions across the Pacific… to the recovery of astronauts returning from the Moon… to the imagined future of Starfleet exploring distant worlds.
